Lumiglas®

Lumiglas – the observation of process operations taking place

that is what lumiglas offers.

Lumiglas stands for sight and light ; for ideal visual control.

These inspections are carried out either by the process operative directly on the spot or without the need to access the plant, by means of the Lumiglas VISULEX Ex camera system. The combination of light and sight glass, created by Papenmeier- the first of many Lumiglas patents- is the ideal low cost solution for the user: the additional cut-out for a second sight port in the case of separate ports is avoided.

More security- less cost!

Lumiglas is internationally renowned and used by leading companies worldwide, particularly in explosion hazardous areas of the chemical, bio and pharmaceutical industries: mineral oil refining as well as foodstuffs and beverage industries, nuclear power plant, machine construction, electro industry, water treatment and shipbuilding.

Lumiglas means:

Individually tailored resolution of problems; using economically attractive standard products or special designs to clients’ own specification.

A closely woven network of agencies both in and out of the country ensures efficient customer and after sales service.

Quality

Parallel to our core competencies, we have established a comprehensive integrated quality management system that is constantly evolving with growing demands.

This is the basis of our success. Our standard is improved day by careful quality planning of development   on the production, the   Sales   to service. Only in this way our products reach the required high reliability, availability and durability – even under difficult conditions. All those participating in the process be integrated into the overarching activities with.

LED Technology

Our representative shows in a video LED technology.

The smart motion detector/twilight switch: The M55-BD-Ex automatically switches the light or other users in potentially explosive (Ex) indoor or outdoor areas on and off again.

Lumistar Luminaire ASL 57LED-Ex (Video)

For a better perspective: Lumistar ASL57LED-Ex

  • Extremely bright: 35 Watt high power LED / 1800 Lumen
  • Long lasting, low heat radiation into process vessel (cold light output)
  • Patented two chamber design
  • Unique fins design provides effective cooling in all directions

  • The Lumistar luminaire USL 07 LED-Ex captures areas of application that were so far unsuitable for illumination in potentially explosive areas.
  • Suitable for ambient temperatures of +60 °C. Effective measures  against corrosion ensure universal application possibilities.
  • The large light emission and the optimally designed screwed glass opening make the luminaire perfect for the illumination of vessels, tanks, agitators, silos and other, generally closed, containers and reactors and also in visual flow indicators in potentially explosive environments. Suitable for use in the food processing industry.
  • Protection class: Dust-tight and water jet-proof, IP 65 and IP 67 acc. to DIN EN
    60529/DIN VDE 0470, part 1.
  • This sight glass luminaire is designed for universal applications in potentially explosive
operating areas and is ideal either in combined sight and light ports (single-flange
version) or for separate ports (two-flange version).

Long service life and extremely robust construction:

Due to the long-life LED there is no heat radiation from the light emission. The robust
construction of the Lumistar USL 07 LED-Ex is especially designed for use on
vibrating or oscillating tanks.

Always reliable in use:

Downtimes in production as well as maintenance cause huge costs.
With the refitting to Lumistar LED luminaires, service cycles are more than doubled.
Depending on the environment, our customers can expect several years of
maintenance-free operation.

Explosion Protection

DEKRA clearly explains the topic of “explosion protection” in a video that we link to here (YouTube link).

Since 1 July 2003, EG Directive 94/9/EG and its conformity assessment procedure must be applied to equipment and protective systems intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres operating at atmospheric pressure and temperature conditions (-20 ° C to -40 ° C) 80 ° C and total pressures from 0.8 bar to 1.1 bar absolute). As the device is understood in the scope of any electrical and non-electrical equipment that represents a potential ignition source. These include lights, cabinets or electrical sensors that can cause ignition by sparks, arcs or hot surfaces. However, the directive also includes clutches, fans, compressors or rotary valves, which may be considered as sources of ignition due to possible hot surfaces or damage due to the sparking of mutually contacting clutches, fans, compressors or rotary valves.

The requirements for devices intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres increase from Category 3 to Cat. 2 / M2 to Category 1 / M1. While for Category 3 equipment, the manufacturer can demonstrate conformity through internal production controls, the other categories must have a notified body turned on and their identification number indicated on the Ex-label of the equipment. The devices may undergo individual tests or the conformity of the device with the EG Directive may be demonstrated, for example, by an EG type examination in conjunction with a certified quality system (in conjunction with ISO 9000) of the manufacturer. Chapter 2 of the guideline describes the possible module combinations and the annexes to the guideline describe the modules in more detail.

The second group covered by the directive is protection systems. These include, for example, flame arresters that locally limit an explosion or automatic fire extinguishing equipment. Autonomous protection systems, like devices of category 1 / M1, must be inspected by a notified body.

For devices and protective systems that are not covered by the operating conditions [temperature / pressure] within the scope of the directive, the explosion protection must be demonstrated as part of the risk assessment according to the German Industrial Safety Ordinance.
